Medterra CBD Capsules

Medterra CBD capsules are made of CBD isolate and have excellent pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. Check out our recommended CBD capsules from Medterra.

Medterra CBD Capsules

Medterra CBD capsules are made of CBD isolate, a crystalline powder that contains 99%+ pure CBD, which is suspended in fractionated coconut oil and then encapsulated for easy consumption. As Medterra goes through a rigorous extraction and refinement process that strips away all other cannabinoids and non-cannabinoid compounds, their CBD capsules do not contain any of the other all-natural hemp extracts such as CBDv (Cannabidivarin), CBG (Cannabigerol), CBC (Cannabichromene) and CBT (Cannabicitran), or any of the naturally-occurring terpenes, flavonoids, and Omega acids. Medterra CBD capsules are also THC-free, ensuring you get a product that is pure CBD.

As a CBD isolate product, Medterra CBD capsules do not benefit from the entourage effect, and those looking to capitalise on the power of other phytocannabinoids may want to go for Medterra CBD oil instead.

Their CBD capsules are derived from organic hemp plants that are grown under the highest agricultural directives in Kentucky (USA) and CBD extracts are produced using CO2 extraction, one of the cleanest extraction methods, resulting in high-quality CBD capsules.

Medterra CBD capsules are vegan friendly, gluten-free, organic, GMO free, lab tested and contain no THC, CBN & THCV, ensuring you get the purest CBD possible.

Medterra CBD is a great option for those looking for THC-free CBD capsules as all their capsules are made of CBD isolate.

Medterra have focused on developing a comprehensive range of quality broad-spectrum and CBD isolate products which are ideal for customers looking for THC free options.

We love the fact that Medterra have decided to focus on THC free oils and capsules to differentiate their products from their main competitors.

Their CBD capsules are perfect if you do not like the taste of CBD oil or if you would prefer not to take CBD by using the dropper pipette and leaving the oil under the tongue, as you will be able to experience all the benefits of CBD without the downsides of CBD oil.

When buying their CBD capsules, be aware that the amount of CBD in each capsule will vary depending on which product you go for and that some of their capsules are not suitable for vegetarians and vegans as they contain bovine gelatine.

Medterra CBD Gel Capsules

They offer their CBD gel capsules in two strengths, so each bottle will contain 30 capsules for a total of 750mg (25mg capsules) or 1,500mg of CBD (50mg capsules):

CBD (mg) Type* Price BUY
750mg Isolate £40.99 BUY
1500mg Isolate £62.99 BUY

*(FS) – Full Spectrum / (BS) – Broad Spectrum / CBD Isolate

Choosing capsules is a great way to get your CBD intake and it’s incredibly travel friendly, the ideal solution for those who are always on the go.

As with other Medterra products, their capsules are made with Pure CBD (isolate) and contain no pesticides, herbicides, solvents or chemical fertilizers. They are sourced from organically grown, non-GMO, pesticide-free hemp plants that have been grown in the US and have also been independently lab tested for potency and purity.

Price wise, you can get their Medterra CBD Capsules 25mg (30 capsules per bottle) for £40.99 which works out at £0.054 per mg of CBD whilst Medterra CBD Capsules 50mg will cost £62.99, so approximately £0.043 per mg of CBD, so going for the higher potency capsules will work out cheaper in the long run as you’ll save 20% for the same amount of CBD.

Note: As the gel capsule is made from bovine gelatine, this product is not vegan friendly.

Medterra CBD Capsules Efficacy

After testing Medterra CBD oil 3000mg (10% concentration with MCT oil carrier) earlier this year, we were looking forward to giving their CBD capsules a go.

As Medterra CBD capsules come in two strengths – 25mg and 50mg – the choice was easy so we went for a bottle of their 750mg CBD capsules which contain 30 individual capsules, each packed with 25mg of CBD. We would not recommend those for beginners or those suffering from mild conditions, but if you’re already taking CBD and consume 25mg or more daily, these are a great option.

As their capsules are made of CBD isolate (99% Pure CBD), they do not contain any of the other all-natural hemp extracts such as CBDv (Cannabidivarin), CBG (Cannabigerol), CBC (Cannabichromene) and CBT (Cannabitriol), or any of the naturally-occurring terpenes, flavonoids, and Omega acids. This was originally a concern as we are used to testing full or broad-spectrum products which benefit from the entourage effect and therefore weren’t sure about how effective these CBD capsules would be to treat painful condition such as arthritis.

During our week-long test, we took 25mg of CBD in the morning on an empty stomach (1 x 25mg capsules) and another 25mg (1 x 25mg capsule) in the middle of the day, giving us a total of 50mg of CBD per day.

So unlike their CBD oils which are easy to use as you can get a precise amount of CBD each day, their CBD capsules make it a little trickier to get the right CBD dosage as you’ll only be able to consume it in 25mg increments – 25mg, 50mg, 75mg and so on.

So how well did Medterra CBD capsules perform?

Medterra CBD Capsules for Pain Relief

Medterra CBD capsules performed well in terms of their analgesic (i.e. to relieve pain) and anti-inflammatory properties.

The capsules are easily swallowed with a glass of water (or beverage of your choice), but unlike CBD oil which is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream, they have to go through the digestive track and therefore take a little longer to get to work. On average, the effects of their CBD capsules are felt 45min to 60min after taking them, which isn’t ideal if you are looking for a fast acting CBD product.

By taking 1 CBD capsule (25mg) immediately after a tough workout in the morning (on an empty stomach), and one additional capsule (25mg of CBD) early afternoon, I have experienced a reduction of my pain levels and get on with my day without worrying about hip pain or discomfort. I remained active throughout the week I took their CBD capsules and even on days where I increased my physical activity, I was able to perform with little to no discomfort. I was also able to stop taking traditional painkillers, which is a win in my book as these tend to have a negative impact on your gut microbiome.

Immediately after I stopped taking Medterra 25mg CBD capsules, I noticed that my hip slowly started to be painful and stiff again, especially first thing in the morning and after my daily workout. After two or three days of not taking their CBD capsules, the pain and discomfort were back during the day and my sleep was disrupted due to the pain, which clearly shows that their CBD capsules have great analgesic properties.

One caveat though is that I usually stick to 40mg of CBD daily, so by taking 2 x 25mg capsules daily, I actually increased my CBD intake by 10mg and compressed this in the first part of the day, which brings me to my second point. Sleep.

Medterra CBD Capsules for Sleep

Whilst I enjoy the other benefits of CBD such as improved sleep or reduced stress and anxiety, I primarily take CBD for pain relief. As Medterra CBD capsules contain 25mg of CBD, I could only take 2 capsules a day (50mg) to remain close to usual target of 40mg of CBD daily.

As I took my second capsule around 2-3pm to combat pain, most of the other benefits had usually worn off by the time I got to dinner which meant that I did not experience any benefit at all when it comes to improved sleep.

So if your aim is to use CBD for sleep, do not take it too early in the day but be mindful that CBD capsules do take a little longer to be processed by the body since they go through the digestive track. So you’ll need to take them 30-45 minutes before going to bed so you can feel the effect when you go to bed, not an hour later.

Medterra CBD Capsules Value for Money

Not only do we like Medterra CBD capsules for their efficacy, but we also think they are some of the best value for money CBD capsules on the market.

A person between 150 and 240 lbs may need between 20mg and 40mg of CBD per day depending on the severity of their symptoms. A bottle of their 750mg capsules (retail: £40.98) contain 30 individual capsules of 25mg that will last between 19 and 36 days and cost between £1.09 and £2.18 per day, although this is based on the total amount of CBD per bottle. Seeing as their capsules contain 25mg of CBD, it is impossible to get exactly 20mg a day, so a bottle will essentially last between 15 and 30 days and cost between £1.36 and £2.72 per day which is still decent value but can become expensive over time.

This is one of the main downsides of having 25mg and 50mg capsules instead of 10mg ones, and the reason why we wouldn’t recommend them for people suffering from mild conditions.

Based on 20mg of CBD per day, here’s how the best CBD capsules stack-up in terms of daily cost:

CBD (mg) Price Daily Cost
Honest Hemp 30 x 25mg £39.99 £1.06
Medterra 30 x 25mg £40.98 £1.09
Love CBD 30 x 20mg £34.99 £1.16
Blessed CBD 30 x 30mg £59.95 £1.33
Hempura 30 x 10mg £19.99 £1.33
Naturecan 30 x 10mg £19.99 £1.33
Provacan 30 x 24mg £49.99 £1.39
Four Five CBD 60 x 10mg £50.00 £1.67
Endoca 30 x 10mg £26.00 £1.73
Holistic Hemp 30 x 15mg £50.00 £2.22

Advantages of Medterra CBD Capsules

Medterra CBD capsules have many advantages over other CBD products such as CBD oil or CBD gummies.

  • Easy to use and discreet – CBD capsules are incredibly easy to use as it is essentially the same as taking vitamin pills. It is one of the most inconspicuous way to get your daily dose of CBD as all you have to do is swallow a capsule with a glass of water.
  • Precise dosage – Dosage couldn’t be easier and more precise than with CBD capsules, as each pill contain an exact amount of CBD (e.g. 10mg per capsule). Unlike CBD oil, you do not need to count how many drops you need to take.
  • No nasty aftertaste – Whilst CBD oils tend to have a very earthy or grassy taste, CBD capsules are simply swallowed and do not have any taste at all. For that reason, they are an excellent alternative to CBD oils who often have a strong aftertaste.
  • A great alternative – For people who do not like to put CBD oil under their tongue or for those who do not want to consume additives such as sugar present in CBD gummies, CBD capsules are a great alternative as you simply need to swallow them and do not have to chew or leave the oil under your tongue as you would with gummies or CBD oil.
  • No addictive or withdrawal issues – Finally, CBD capsules are a natural remedy that can be taken by almost anyone and possesses none of the addictive or withdrawal issues that other pain management or anxiety medications may present.

Disadvantages of Medterra CBD Capsules

Whilst there are quite a few advantages to getting your daily dose of CBD using Medterra CBD capsules, there are unfortunately several drawbacks which are worth considering.

  • Less bioavailable – the term bioavailability stands for the proportion of a drug or substance which reaches the systemic circulation. By definition, when a substance is administered intravenously, its bioavailability is 100%. However, when the same substance is administered via other routes (e.g. mouth), its bioavailability is generally lower than that of intravenous due to the fact that it needs to go through the intestines and digestion process. For that reason, CBD oil is more bioavailable than CBD capsules as it comes into contact with the sublingual gland (under the tongue) which speeds up the process of absorption and quickly enters the bloodstream.
  • Not fast acting – another problem with CBD capsules is that they are not as fast acting as CBD oil seeing as it will take some time to be processed and broken down by your digestive system. So seeing as the faster the CBD is absorbed, the sooner it can get to work, CBD capsules will usually take between 30-60 minutes to act when CBD oil takes less than 20 minutes.
  • Interaction with other medications – It’s also worth noting that CBD may make it harder for your body to process certain medications, so if you are taking any other medications, be sure to check with your GP before taking CBD products.
  • Minor side effects – Finally, CBD can cause side effects in some people including drowsiness, changes in mood, nausea, and changes in appetite. Every individual will be affected differently, and in most cases, there are no side effects to worry about.

Medterra CBD Capsules Dosage

CBD capsules are similar to vitamin or supplement pills and as such can be taken in the same way.

Each capsule contains a precise amount of CBD – usually between 10mg and 50mg of CBD per capsule – and as such can be stronger than a single drop of CBD oil, so be sure to check the strength or your capsules and your ideal dosage before taking them.

How Much CBD Should I Consume?

When using CBD capsules for the first time, we would always recommend starting with a small dose and working your way up. Most people will start with a 5mg to 10mg capsules taking 1 at a time, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach to see how your body reacts to it.

If you are not seeing any major benefits with a single capsule, increase your intake by an additional capsule every 3-5 days until finding the right balance to treat your personal symptoms.

As a rule of thumb, a person weighting between 10.5 and 17 stones (approximately 150 and 240 lbs) may need between 20mg and 40mg of CBD per day depending on the severity of their symptoms.

How Many CBD Capsules Should I Take?

Whilst it may be confusing at the beginning, it’s incredibly simple to work out how many CBD capsules you need to eat depending on your daily requirements and the strength of the product you bought. Most CBD capsules contain between 5mg of CBD and 50mg of CBD.

So assuming you need to hit 25mg of CBD per day you will need:

CBD / Capsule Capsules / Day
5mg 5 capsules
10mg 2-3 capsules
25mg 1 capsule

If however you are trying to hit 50mg of CBD per day, you will need:

CBD / Capsules Capsules / Day
5mg 10 capsules
10mg 5 capsules
25mg 2 capsules
50mg 1 capsule

Assuming that you are trying to hit 50mg of CBD per day and use 5mg CBD capsules, you could break this down throughout the day and take 4 capsules in the morning on an empty stomach, 3 capsules early afternoon and 3 capsules in the evening.

As with everything, start with a small amount of CBD daily to make sure there’s no reaction, then increase slowly by a drop every 1-2 days until finding the right balance.

Medterra CBD Capsules Lab Reports

As a CBD company, Medterra plays the transparency card with their customers. They guarantee that the product you are purchasing contains the exact amount of CBD advertised on their site, without any THC (the intoxicating compound in cannabis). As such, they have made a clear commitment to raising the bar of the quality of CBD products available in the US and worldwide.

Since many CBD products contain pesticides, herbicides, mould, fungi, dangerous mycotoxins and not the amount of CBD or THC advertised on their site, Medterra CBD are working closely with Proverde Labs, a US based company offering analytical testing for CBD products.

In addition to being sourced and extracted from the highest-grade certified organic US hemp, they guarantee that their products are 100% organic and free of synthetic ingredients.

They allow customers to see their Certificates of Analysis online by going to the certificates of analysis page, which breaks down the potency of cannabinoids. The tests available to customers do not however highlight the presence of terpenes and flavonoids, as well as the absence of heavy metals, mycotoxins, pesticides or microbes, which we think is a shame but pretty standard in the industry.

The certificate of analysis for their Broad-Spectrum 1000mg CBD oil can be found here, but certificates for their CBD capsules are also available on their site.

Health Benefits of Medterra CBD Capsules

The human body contains a specialized system called the ECS (the endocannabinoid system), which aim is to regulate a variety of functions such as sleep, appetite, pain and immune system response. The body also produces endocannabinoids, which are simply neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system.

CBD is believed to interact with specific receptors, specifically the CB1R and CB2R.

  • CB1 receptors, which are located in various regions of the body, with a large concentration in the central nervous system and brain, co-ordinate mood, emotion, appetite, and other functions.
  • CB2 receptors are more commonly found in the immune system and are responsible for controlling inflammation and pain. CBD stimulates these receptors and induces the body to release serotonin.

Serotonin, or 5-HT, is a neurotransmitter that carries signals from one neuron to the other. CBD increases the level of serotonin, which, in return, helps reduce pain, reduce inflammation as well as provide a range of other health benefits, which include:

  • CBD for Pain Relief: CBD has analgesic (pain relief) properties and can help with many painful conditions such as arthritis, headache disorders, migraines, back pain or period pain.
  • CBD for Sleep: CBD has a calming effect on both the mind and the body, allowing people to fall asleep more easily and stay asleep throughout the night.
  • CBD for Stress: CBD helps reduce stress and calm both the body and mind, through its interaction with both the Hippocampus and the Amygdala.
  • CBD for Anxiety: CBD has both anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties, and can be a great alternative to anxiety medications which have known side-effects.
  • CBD for Headaches: CBD reduces the frequency of headaches as well as reduce stress and improve sleep, two major triggers of headaches. But CBD also has strong analgesic (pain relief) and antiemetic (prevent vomiting) properties which can help people with headache disorders during an attack.
  • CBD for Arthritis: CBD has antiarthritic, analgesic (pain relief) as well as anti-inflammatory properties and as such is a great option for people suffering from arthritis.
  • CBD for Cancer: CBD helps relieve some of the symptoms of cancer as well as reducing the side of effects of cancer medication such as nausea, vomiting and pain.
  • CBD for Epilepsy: CBD helps reduce the frequency and intensity of seizures in epileptic patients, and may also counteract some of the side effects of traditional anti-epileptic.
